" In
confession there is mercy. Believe it firmly, do not doubt, do not hesitate,
never despair of the mercy of God. Saint Isidore of Seville.
Confession is the sacrament of love instituted by
Jesus after His resurrection. Jesus gave His authority to forgive sins to His
disciples so that His acts of mercy and love may continue everyday in this
world.
We have to understand clearly that sacrament of
confession is sacrament of love because of the suffering of Jesus on the cross
and also for dying a painful death for our sins.
Jesus has been given authority to forgive sins on
the earth and Jesus has given the same authority to His disciples and the same
tradition had handed over to this generations through pope to cardinals to
bishops to priests. Priests are exercising their authority given to them by
Jesus in obedience and also in confidentiality.
Priest who listen to our confession are under vow
of obedience and confidentiality so that they may hear our confession in
obedience to Jesus and also maintain the confidentiality of our confession with
others.
There are many people who commit sins so that they
can go for confession, if we practice this then surely we are in danger of
perishing because we are not sure whether we are granted the opportunity to
confess our sins before death calls us.
Let us go for confession very often and let us
honour the sacrament of love instead of abusing it. Sacrament of reconciliation
is very important to live under the shadow of God’s Grace.
If we have committed big sin or small sin God still
forgives us, hence let us not fall into guilt and waste our time but find way
to get to confession as soon as possible so that we may obtain mercy of God and
also cleansed from all unrighteousness and be united with God.
